Update: Russian research vessel completes brief loiter in the central in the Baltic Sea and heads south
After a brief loiter in the central Baltic Sea on 1 February 2025, Admiral Vladimirskiy transited south during the afternoon and was operating west of Klaipeda during the forenoon, 2 February 2025.
Following a brief loiter for unidentified activity between Gotland island and Ventspils during the forenoon 1 February 2025, Russian Navy Baltic Fleet Project 852 Akademik Krylov class expeditionary oceanographic research vessel OIS “Admiral Vladimirskiy” proceeded south during the afternoon and was noted passing west of Liepaja during the early evening hours.

Vladimirskiy continued to track south overnight and was noted operating west of Liepaja, during the forenoon 2 February and is highly likely heading for the Gulf of Gdansk, likely Baltiysk roads area, where she could arrive by the early afternoon. Vladimirsky is likely being closely monitored by unidentified NATO assets.
Whilst her tasking is unknown, Admiral Vladimirskiy can almost certainly be augmented with equipment and personnel to conduct intelligence gathering duties and she was noted conducting infrastructure surveillance missions in the European littoral during 2022 and 2023.
Update 3 February 2025
Admiral Vladimirskiy was visually identified entering Baltiysk harbour during the afternoon 2 February 2025, likely for a short port visit.

There is a realistic possibility Admiral Vladimirskiy will deploy out-of-area, likely to European littoral waters, during the next 4-14 days.
