Russian Navy research vessel arrives in Venezuela
Russian Navy OIS Admiral Vladimirskiy arrived in La Guaira having completed an initial hydrographic survey tasking period in the North Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea
Russian Navy Baltic Fleet Project 852 Akademik Krylov class expeditionary oceanographic research vessel (OIS) “Admiral Vladimirsky” departed the Baltic Sea during the forenoon, 17 March 2025, and having entered the North Atlantic Ocean via the English Channel, transited north west along the boundary of the continental shelf to highly likely conduct survey operations over the alluvial plain north east of the West European basin.

Following this survey period, Admiral Vladimirskiy commenced a south westerly transit of the North Atlantic Ocean, passing north west of the Azores archipelago and Bermuda, conducting occasional oceanic and meteorological data collection enroute before entering the Caribbean region in early April and operating along the north Cuban littoral.
Upon entering the Caribbean Sea, Admiral Vladimirskiy conducted a south easterly transit, to the west of the Cayman islands, enroute a hydrographic survey tasking period in the Bonaire Basin ahead of a port call to La Guaira, where notably, the ship was visited by President Nicolas Maduro who toured the ship and received briefings from ships’ staff.
Following regional engagement and replenishment, Admiral Vladimirskiy will highly likely resume its programmed hydrographic tasking in the Caribbean region over the next two to three months and conduct further regional engagement activity, likely in Colombia and almost certainly in Cuba.
